Electric Vehicle Subsidy Update

Updated: Jul 19, 2022

In this week’s article, I would like to take a brief respite from the regularly scheduled educational content and technical treatises offered here. Instead, I will provide an exciting public service announcement regarding one of the Solar Initiative’s most popular subsidies. I also wish to take a moment to thank our benefactor, who makes the subsidies the Solar Initiative (tSI) offers possible. Without their continued support, tSI would be unable to offer programs such as this one!

Personal transportation accounts for a significant portion of each of our total greenhouse gas emissions; therefore, a substantive positive change in how we power the vehicles we drive would have a meaningful effect on each individual’s environmental impact. The obvious choice for such a progression is to transition from a vehicle deriving its means of propulsion from internal combustion to one powered entirely by electricity. The electrification of our transportation infrastructure, coupled with additional renewable energy generation capacity offers the opportunity for a significant reduction in our dependance on fossil fuels, as well as our net environmental impact.

An overwhelming number of community members applied to this program, making it challenging to select just 20 well-suited recipients. Therefore, it is my great pleasure to announce that the Solar Initiative will be offering our electric vehicle (EV) subsidy to every eligible individual, as defined by our board of directors, who applied to participate in this program during the application period of April 21st through May 21st. tSI is offering up to $300 per month for up to 36 months toward an EV loan or lease. For complete subsidy terms, please visit www.thesolarinitiativebi.com/2022-ev-subsidy-terms

Due to a variety of delays, as well as supply chain constraints, the window for the acquisition of an EV with aid from this program will remain open until the end of the 2022 calendar year. If you applied for this subsidy, please look for an email detailing how to move forward as you make your EV acquisition.

For those with an interest in this program who, for any reason, were unable to apply during the application period, keep an eye on our website, this column, or inquire via email, as tSI may offer additional subsidies of a similar format in the future.
